Sperm Apoptosis – DNA fragmentation

Apoptosis, also known as programmed cell death, is a normal mechanism of cell destruction, which ensures the proper development of the body and maintains its homeostasis. Apoptotic cells show various structural changes mainly in their nucleus, such as the fragmentation of their genetic material (DNA), meaning the breaking of DNA strands into pieces. This test reveals the percentage of apoptotic sperm cells in each semen sample. A high percentage of apoptosis may prevent the normal development of the fetus at an early stage, cause miscarriage, abnormalities in newborns, etc.
