Vitrification – FREEZE ALL

The purpose of cryopreservation of excess embryos is, in case the “fresh” IVF cycle does not succeed, the woman to be led directly to embryo transfer and possible pregnancy, without re-undergoing the process of stimulation with drugs and ovulation. The success rates of the procedure are the same as the corresponding “fresh” IVF cycle. The cryopreservation technique that is applied is that of fast freezing – vitrification. Vitrification has gained universal acceptance due to its advantages. Glazing avoids the damage caused by the formation of crystals inside the cells of the embryo during cooling and dramatically increases the survival rate of embryos in thawing. The same technique is used in case of egg cryopreservation with excellent success rates.

FREEZE ALL
The “freeze all” technique concerns the cryopreservation of embryos after an in vitro fertilization procedure.
This process was made possible by the application of vitrification which increased the viability rates of the embryos after cryopreservation but also gave equal implantation rates compared to those of a fresh embryo transfer.

Reasons to move to freeze all:
• Increased or decreased progesterone before embryo transfer
• Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis
• Minimization of the occurrence of Hyperstimulation Syndrome in patients with increased response
• Other medical reasons
